We started from understanding what our users organic workflows were, so even before they were using fulcrum - how were they solving for this problem? They would walk us through the before, the during, and the after of creating a BOM & Routing. Who communicated with who? what was communicated? why is that important? And then we dove into what was difficult about the workflow specifically within fulcrum.

From there I congregated issues our users had into two groups - which were consistent among most and which were outliers. I also mapped each users workflow and then mapped an ideal workflow for my design to follow / consider. And then before creating any designs, I always created a hierarchy of information and interactions based on user feedback.
